Location

The conference, which will take place on August 5—7, is co-located with ACM SIGGRAPH 2011 in Vancouver, Canada. The venue is the Woodward Centre, officially The Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, a facility on Simon Fraser University's Vancouver Campus.

History

Gastown is the cradle of Vancouver history. It's where Vancouver began. Gastown was Vancouver's first downtown core and is named after "Gassy" Jack Deighton, a Geordie seaman, steamboat captain and barkeep who arrived in 1867 to open the area's first saloon.

Today, Gastown is a mix of "hip" contemporary fashion and interior furnishing boutiques, tourist-oriented businesses (generally restricted to Water Street), great restaurants and bars, nightclubs, poverty (don't wander off to W. Hastings street) and newly upscale housing.

Getting Here

Area map with venue, restaurants, parking, and train station indicated.

The conference is held at the SFU Woodwards Centre for the Arts. Although the official address is 149 W. Hastings street, the main entrance to SFU Woodward's is located in the courtyard at the corner of Cambie and Cordova. Access SFU Woodward's from the courtyard entrance at the corner of Cambie and Cordova. Please refer to the map where Woodwards is marked with a W. (When zoomed in, a blue line shows how to enter into the courtyard to approach the main entrance.) You can always find Woodwards by its characteristic W sign that stands high in the skyline of Vancouver. Additionally, local pedestrians will know the Woodwards centre as a landmark.

  • Car: There is an EasyPark lot located on Cordova Street across from the theatre, indicated on the map with a capital P.
  • Public Transit: We are located on a major bus route and within easy walking distance of SkyTrain. Map: The closest SkyTrain (Waterfront) is marked with a . The blue line on the map shows how to walk from the Waterfront station to Woodwards.
